3D Printing & Fashion

Who thought we would get to a point where we can create tailored clothes with a 3D printer? I know almost anything is possible nowadays, but it still seems like such a far fetched (but brilliant) idea.

Dita Von Teese

Fashion continuously pushes itself into new boundaries & 3D printed items such as jewellery is just the beginning. Just last year, burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese wore a gown entirely 3D printed! This incredible piece created by New York designer Michael Schmidt & architect Francis Bitonti serves as an inspiration to all 3D printed clothing. Read more about how the piece was created here.

Victoria’s Secret

Extremely popular underwear brand Victoria’s Secret used 3D printed outfits & wings on the runway in 2013. The outfit includes a corset, hat and wings made entirely with 3D printing in a beautiful snow flake design. The incredible piece was designed by Victoria Secret, Swarovski & Bradley Rothenberg (a New York architect) and was printed by Shapeways. Are you interested in how it was made? Watch the Swarovski’s YouTube video of how it was created here.

Vogue described the event as “A riot of colours, crystals and jaw-dropping costumes, this year’s show took birds of paradise, a British invasion and Parisian nights as its themes with 40 models parading down the catwalk and a multitude of wings.”

Iris Van Herpen

The Dutch designer is traditionally trained in couture, however has more recently been focusing on 3D printed clothing. Her iconic skeleton dress is currently on display as part of the ‘Vanitas‘ exhibition, which is on until July 20th this year. More of her beautiful 3D printed work can be seen below & read about here.
